Why does the google translator translate Japanese to English so poorly?

With other languages, you can at least figure out what they're saying, but with Japanese, it's comes out as nonsense.|||It's because it doesn't know how to use context, which is very important in Japanese. It also has trouble understanding the masculinity/femininity of certain words, which is also important. Finally, it has to try and decide if the phrase is in Kanji, Hiragana, and Katakana.|||With any computer program you're going to find errors. The more Kanji you use the closer it will be, but because it cannot recognize context it can't be a reliable translator.

It's horrible with many of the languages it translates, but it was never meant for professional use. It's always better to try and find an educated person to translate for you, or study the language so you can do it yourself.|||Human language is one of the hardest things for computers to understand, and so machine translation is far from perfect. The method Google uses is purely statistical, based on a statistical analysis of a huge database of bilingual texts, like United Nations documents. It does not apply grammatical rules, and does not use traditional rule-based analysis as other (professional) machine translations do.

Google Translate, like other automatic translation tools, has its limitations. While it can help you to understand the general content of a foreign language text, it does not always deliver accurate translations. And that will probably stay like this until the arrival of super-fast quantum computers.

You can use it on short, simple phrase with some confidence, but once we're talking complex phrases, you need a good human translator to make sense of the result. For a serious translation, an online machine translation is just _one_ tool among many others. You wouldn't want to build a house only using a hammer, would you?|||it is bad with other languages too. That is just google translate. They didn't program it very well. It is not really accurate. But I do not know why japanese is very bad. my friend typed yes in arabic and in google translate it said that it meant lowa. Dont trust google translate
