thnx for your replies|||Babel fish does English to Japanese, although it uses kana. But, as long as you are working with Japanese, you really ought to learn the kana. They really aren't that hard, after all, and they are beautiful! Learn the hiragana first, practicing such one set a week (ka, ki, ku, ke, ko one week, then, say, ta, ti, tu, te, to the next, and so on), until you have them all learned. Then start on the katakana, which you see less often. After that, you can pick up a set of flash cars for learning the many kanji. I have two lovely sets, Tuttle Kanji Cards, including the first 440 (the most common ones), and the second 566. These are by Alexander Kask, published by Charles E. Tuttle Company, and together they comprise the complete Kyoiku syllabus approved by Japan's Ministry of Education. Each kanji character is shown clearly with its radical (the bit that is used in the dictionary to look it up), the number of strokes used to write it, remarks on what the parts mean, and pronunciation, compounds, etc. That sure beats the playpen method of sticking with Roman letters (or Romaji), which ensures that you'll never master Japanese!|||The most trustful website would be :
